The July/August issue of Cumbria Guide Magazine is here!

A Word from the Editor

Summertime, and the living is easy—especially here in Cumbria, where events are popping up left, right and centre!

This summer, we’re also celebrating a big milestone: 18 years of The Cumbria Guide. That’s 18 years made possible by the continued support of our brilliant customers, readers and followers. So a huge THANK YOU to everyone who’s picked up a mag, placed an advert, or simply given us a like or share online. We couldn’t have done it without you!

With the kids off school, parents everywhere are gearing up for six weeks of chaos—snackless cupboards, “I’m bored” on repeat, and a house that looks like a toy shop exploded. But fear not! This issue is bursting with ideas to keep the whole family entertained across West and North Cumbria. So grab a brew, your calendar and a pen—we’ve got summer sorted.

Kicking off this edition is Pride by the Harbourside—a free family celebration of love, diversity, and inclusion. Expect stalls, activities, entertainment, delicious food, and live music from both big names and brilliant local artists.

Got an animal lover in the house? Head up Birker Fell to Woody’s Woolies, where you can cuddle, walk and feed some of the friendliest sheep and goats you’ll ever meet. Trust us—there’s no blue mood a sheep cuddle can’t fix.

Hensingham ARLFC is turning 125 this year, and they’re marking the occasion in style with Henfest—a one-day festival packed with music, food, good vibes and community spirit. Everyone’s welcome!

Taste of the Sea returns to Maryport this August, bringing two days of food, live music, the fantastic Teenage Market, and all the buzzing energy of a seaside celebration.

Fancy reconnecting with nature? Check out our Walks with Wildlings feature for family-friendly adventures at some of Cumbria’s most beautiful nature reserves.

And of course, summer means show season. Agricultural Shows are back in full swing, bringing together livestock competitions, market stalls, children’s entertainment, and good old-fashioned fun. We’ve included a handy list of dates to help you plan.

It’s shaping up to be a brilliant summer—and all we ask is that you get out there and support these events. Local organisers and businesses pour their heart and soul into making them happen, and if we want to keep enjoying exciting, creative events in the future, we need to back them now.

Whether you’re sponsoring, attending, or simply sharing a poster—it all makes a difference.

Here’s to an unforgettable summer in Cumbria!

Have fun, be good…
