The business began life in a barn at Michael’s home in Curthwaite and has flourished over the years. They have been on their current premises for 20 years now and have become well known for their location on the A595.

The shop is now run by Michael’s son, David. A former Olympic ice skater, David returned to Cumbria to join his father’s craft and settle down.

Having spent much of his childhood in the workshop, he too developed a passion for the art of jewellery-making. He said, “We make some fantastic pieces and have some wonderful designers on our team. We’re all local people, and we have always employed and trained locals.”

The pieces they create are truly beautiful. Having worked on many bespoke pieces, including a specially commissioned crucifix for Queen Elizabeth II, they pride themselves on their ability to make unique and sentimental commissions for all their customers.

They have made some wonderfully unique jewellery in their time; one example David gave was a beautifully designed plumber’s tap pendant made for the wife of a plumber. They can cast pretty much anything and have made jewellery using things people have found, like sea glass and pebbles.

The team has extensive knowledge of the craft and can advise customers on which metals, stones, and designs would best suit their particular needs.

David said: “We have members of the team that have been with us for over 20 years, and they are all members of the local community. We strive to employ and train our staff locally. We aim to give our customers the best possible service, and that means being able to give them solid and knowledgeable advice.”

As well as making jewellery, they also have a repair and repurpose service and encourage people to bring in any old jewellery that they may have and have it recreated into something beautiful and sentimental.

For more information on their services or to find out a bit more about who they are, stop by their shop or visit their website. Their friendly, experienced staff is always on hand to guide, advise, and answer any questions you may have!
