Free Creative Workshops for All Ages with Handpicked Productions This Half Term and Beyond
Families and young people in West Cumbria are invited to take part in a range of inspiring, hands-on creative activities this half term and beyond, thanks to Handpicked Productions and funding from Arts Council England.
SumArt To Do – Free Creative Workshops for Families. Taking place in Whitehaven and Cleator Moor, these friendly, artist-led sessions offer families two chances to come together, make treasured memories, and create crafts to keep forever.
Led by artist Janice, participants will learn to design and assemble their own hanging mobiles. Expect bright shapes, playful patterns, and floating fun—perfect for adding colour and movement to any space. More than just a craft, each mobile will be a little piece of art to admire all year round.
Workshop dates:
- Friday 30 May, 10am – 12pm – Cleator Moor Youth and Community Centre
- Friday 30 May, 2pm – 4pm – Rosehill Theatre, Whitehaven
Art Gyms
Free weekly creative workshops for young people. Starting Wednesday 4 June, young people aged 10 and over are invited to take part in Art Gyms – a weekly series of creative workshops running until 16 July, from 6 – 8pm at Cleator Moor Youth and Community Centre.
Led by Janice and supported by youth workers, the sessions will explore lino printing, gelli printing, and new drawing and painting techniques. Each week brings something fun, sometimes challenging, and always rewarding – helping young people build confidence, develop skills, and even begin their own creative portfolio.
Art Gyms offer a valuable opportunity to explore creativity outside the classroom – a relaxed, social space to try new things, meet like-minded people, and enjoy the freedom to express yourself.
All sessions are free to attend, and donations are welcome to support future creative opportunities in the community.
Handpicked Productions is committed to making creativity open to everyone – from young children to teens – in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Whether you’re crafting as a family or exploring your creative side in a dedicated workshop, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
