‘Probably Britain’s most adventurous orchestra’ (The Times), Manchester Camerata returns to Barrow Forum Theatre for an evening of popular classics, featuring two of today’s most eminent female artists, Norwegian trumpet sensation, Tine Thing Helseth, and Australian born conductor, Jessica Cottis.

Known for her communicative powers with audiences, Tine joins the orchestra for concertos by Hummel and Haydn, both renowned for their virtuosic writing and infectious melodies. Completing the programme, Mendelssohn takes us on an evocative tour of Scotland, inspired by the composer’s time in the Highlands – a musical journey encompassing misty peaks, bagpipes and highland dancing.

Camerata bears the name of Manchester consciously and believes passionately in making music with the community of which they are a vital part. Camerata in the Community is developing ground-breaking research and evaluation to measure the impact of the work, highlighting the quality of the orchestra’s projects for people living with dementia, other mental health issues and young people in schools across the North.

As part of Camerata in the Community dementia research, Manchester Camerata perform an afternoon concert, Mrs Maestro, a magical journey to find out all about the instruments in the orchestra. Led by bus owner Mrs Maestro, played by Ulverston local Kerry Willison-Parry, Camerata travel to Barrow, stopping to collect musicians from the orchestra on the way. As the journey progresses, it becomes clear that Mrs Maestro is getting a bit mixed up with what she must do, but with help from you, our audience, and the musicians, Mrs Maestro can get everyone to Barrow in time for the concert! Mrs Maestro is led by Composer Andrew Smith, Director Paul Hine and the musicians of Manchester Camerata.
