Crab Fair
20th September; Egremont
Crab Fair returns to Egremont this year on Friday September 20th and will run over two days. This year will see the return of traditional favourites such as the World Gurning Championship, the greasy pole and the apple cart. There will be street entertainment and markets as well as a funfair. Crab Fest returns on the same weekend up at the crab fair fields where ticketholders will have access to all the activities taking place. Expect sporting activities, a bar tent, food stalls, children’s entertainment, fair rides and lots more!
Mark Thomas: Gaffa Tapes
23rd October; Old Fire Station, Carlisle
‘Jokes, rants, politics, play and the occasional song.’
If you don’t know what he does, ask your parents.
In his time he has won awards (current total is now officially ‘f*ckloads’), forced a politician to resign, changed laws on tax and protest, become Guinness Book of Records world record holder for number of protests in 24 hours, taken the police to court 3 times and won, walked the length of the Israeli Wall in the West Bank and generally mucked about trying to have fun and f*ck the right people off.

Winter Droving
26th October; Penrith
Each year Penrith’s streets become something like a mediaeval market with traditional mulled wine and hot chestnuts, alongside the finest local produce. This includes a wide range of world foods, vegan and vegetarian cuisine, giftware, local artists’ works, quirky clothing and charity stalls.
The Winter Droving offers up an array of masked musicians, street performers, giant animal lanterns and locals dressed in elaborate costumes in a unique celebration steeped in tradition.
The day begins with a fancy dress competition for dogs, while the rest of the town blossoms, showcasing live musicians, street performances, drumming bands and carnival street shows before the eagerly awaited parade. All of this and a diverse range of market stalls.
Created by Eden Arts, The Winter Droving has become one of Cumbria’s iconic cultural events seeing 20,000+ attend annually.
