Carlisle’s Countdown to Christmas
There will be added sparkle in Carlisle this year, after extra funding was secured to enhance the city centre’s Christmas lighting.
Carlisle City Council has secured additional support from the government’s Town Deal funding – managed the Carlisle Town Deal Board – to provide even more festive lighting which will transform the city centre into a winter wonderland.
These will be showcased for the first this time this year and will include additional features in the main city centre, on English Street.
The countdown to Christmas is now underway in Carlisle. A forty-foot-high lit Christmas tree and thousands of sparkling festive lights is now in place in the city centre.
A programme of events is available, including this Sunday’s (20 November) Carlisle Christmas Lights Switch-On Cllr Stephen Higgs, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Leisure said: “We are delighted have secured additional funding to make Carlisle sparkle. There are some wonderful festive events being organised in Carlisle this Christmas – including a Christmas Market – and I hope that they help bring our community together to celebrate.
“The Christmas Tree and lights in the city centre provide a perfect backdrop for some Christmas shopping and for spending time with friends and family.”
A series of markets, Santa Grottos, festivals, craft events and much more will be held.
