Caledonia Park & Moat Brae Partner to Support Literacy this Summer!

Caledonia Park Designer Outlet in Gretna is proud to announce its FREE Never Grow Up event, which will transport visitors to the enchanting world of Neverland.

Taking place throughout July and August, this magical event aims to raise awareness and support children’s literacy during the school holidays to prevent the ‘Summer Slide.’

In partnership with Moat Brae in Dumfries, the birthplace of Peter Pan and home to Scotland’s National Centre of Storytelling & Literature, this event holds special significance for the local community.

The ‘Summer Slide’ is the distinct learning loss that students can experience when out of school. In Barbara Heyns’ study, “Summer Learning and the Effects of Schooling,” research found that children who did not read at all over the summer experienced a loss of reading skills equivalent to as much as an entire grade level.

Centre Director Scott Wells comments,

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Moat Brae on this remarkable event that not only brings the magic of literature to life but also supports a crucial cause. It is vital that we continue to promote literacy among children, particularly during the summer break.”

Cameron Hinde, Visitor Attraction Manager at Moat Brae, adds,

“Events like these play a significant role in encouraging children to explore their imaginations through books and storytelling. We are grateful for the partnership with Caledonia Park Designer Outlet and the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Moat Brae. Every donation received will help us continue our mission of inspiring young readers.”

Visitors to the Caledonia Park Never Grow Up event can look forward to an unforgettable experience brimming with exciting games, thrilling adventure trails, and a book swap library.

The park will be divided into two themed zones, allowing visitors to snap magical selfies with fabulous Fairy Wings, create their own adventures in the Neverland Garden, and embark on an epic journey aboard a Pirate Ship. Additionally, an augmented reality (AR) trail awaits to discover hidden treasures throughout Caledonia Park.

The event’s launch day is scheduled for 6th July from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm, when Caledonia Park will be transformed into the captivating world of Neverland, led by Neverland Crew Characters including Mermaids, Pirates & Lost Boys. The event will then be free every day throughout July and August. The Neverland Crew characters will also be present every Monday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. from 8 July to 26 August to captivate audiences with their engaging tales. To make the event even more special, attendees can collect stamps in their Adventure Passport. Once they have visited three out of the eight Mondays, participants can collect chocolate gold treasure from the Neverland Crew.
