Caitlyn’s Borneo Expedition

A local student is fundraising for the trip of a lifetime to help developing communities in Borneo.

In 2019, Whitehaven Academy student, Caitlyn Pickering is hoping to embark on an exciting four week expedition.

One of the world’s natural gardens, Borneo boasts a unique landscape of vibrant jungle and tropical wilderness. As part of the trip, Caitlyn will take part in community development work, environmental projects and wildlife conservation with the hope of raising educational standards, preserving biodiversity and protecting the natural habitats of the region.

To fund the trip, Caitlyn plans to raise £4,900 over the next year through fundraising and the generous support of local people. She has organised a number of upcoming events, including a concert with local musicians and will take part in a sponsored walk up Scafell Pike.

Caitlyn explained: “This expedition is extremely important to me because I feel that I will acquire and develop many important life skills and allow me to build on my confidence and make a positive difference.”

Since September, Caitlyn has already raised £1000, from a combination of cash donations, car boot sales, raffles and selling her homemade Christmas decorations. She is well on the way to her target, but added: “I am looking for any help and support I can receive and would be grateful for any contributions to my fund.”
