The White Mare – Local Landlady Takes the Reigns!
The White Mare has finally re-opened its doors, and with a new landlady comes exciting things ahead!
It is always sad to see a village without a village pub, and this has been the case for quite a few months in Beckermet.
Village pubs are the heart and soul of the community; A place for the community to come together, to celebrate, or at the very least, provide somewhere to sit, sup, and have good craic.
So it is with great glee that I see the doors are back open at The White Mare Beckermet; it’s almost as if life has been injected into this beautiful, little country village.
When you visit The White Mare you can expect a warm and friendly welcome, beautiful, wholesome meals and a variety of great drinks to wash it down with.
Pints are being pulled, food is being served, and locals and visitors alike are making the most of the weather by taking up seats on the sunbaked terrace and in the beer garden. It’s the perfect time of year to take advantage of the weather and enjoy a meal sat in the beer garden!
Landlady Helen More, a.k.a. Helen The Bun, has taken over the reins at The Whitemare. Helen is a legendary landlady, having worked in many pubs, restaurants, and hotels for over 36 years, and she is here to stay.
Helen started her career at The Central in Egremont in 1988 and has worked at and managed many local pubs and hotels. No doubt many of our readers will know her and the great reputation she has for running a pub.
Helen says, “Our menu is traditional and all-around good, wholesome country pub food. We get our meats from the renowned local butchers, Wilsons of Egremont, and we serve real chips and plenty of them. Sunday is our busiest day of the week, so book if you can. If you love desserts, come and try our delicious homemade Cheesecakes; they are something special.”
“I would like to thank the people of Beckermet for their support since opening; they have been so welcoming, encouraging, and a delight to host. They have helped create an amazing vibe, which makes it a real pleasure to come to work,” says Helen.
Alongside the restaurant and bar The White Mare also has eight rooms which are available to book. Book direct and save a few quid!
Live music is held from time to time at The White Mare; the August bank holiday will see the legendary Don McKay take to the stage. Helen has booked Don on August bank holidays for years, and the ultimate Cumbrian crooner never disappoints.
