The King George IV Inn
Welcome to the King George IV Inn. We are a traditional Lake District Inn dating back to the 15th century, where our aim is to provide our customers with a warm and friendly service and atmosphere. Where local really means local, from the owner and staff to the locally sourced great real ales and produce.
We are both dog and child friendly and have a range of eating areas such as the bar, where you can enjoy the cosy log fire and a craic [chat] with the locals; the restaurant, with lovely views of Brantrake Crags, Cropple How, Raven Crag and Latter Barrow, or outside in the beer garden (if the weather’s right!) where you can look out for The La’al Ratty, the miniature steam railway. There is also a Games room to keep the kids entertained, lots of info on where to go and visit on your holidays, and the inn is accessible for wheelchair users.
Hours of opening:
Sunday to Thursday 12:00 – 00:00
Friday and Saturday 12:00 – 01:00
At The King George we offer a range of scrumptious, hearty meals, as well as pub grub. Our chefs make as much as they can on the premises including our popular steak & ale pie and smoked haddock fishcakes. We try to keep the food miles down by sourcing many of our produce locally including Bewley’s Cumberland sausages, beef and mutton from Taw House farm and Donnan’s fish of Whitehaven.
Rooms or B&B
We have two double en-suite rooms, they are warm and cosy and full of character with tea and coffee making facilities. The en-suites have a bath with a shower, WC and basin.
The rooms can be let “room only” or with our hearty Cumbrian Breakfast that includes Bewley’s Cumberland Sausage, local bacon and free range eggs, just what you need to set you up for a day on the fells. The rooms also have free Wi-Fi.
Self catering accommodation
We have three self-catering accommodation options, all with their own private entrance, so you can come and go at your own leisure.
