Cosy up to our September/October Issue – Read it here!
A Word from the Editor
Pumpkin spice is in the air, and a brisk chill lets us know that summer is making way for the autumn months – and I, for one, am ready for it, not least because the school gates have finally opened after six long weeks!
The autumn is a time to slow down, pick yourself back up from the chaos of summer and prepare for the madness of the festive season, the darker nights and drizzly mornings may invoke gloom in some folk, but for me I think it allows the time and space to take a breath and take the days a little gentler and look forward to what’s to come in the final quarter of the year.
There’s plenty coming up here in Cumbria, from robots taking over Whitehaven to Halloween Celebrations across the county and Taste Cumbria is going crazy, gallivanting across the county Cockermouth first – then over to Carlisle to spread Tastey vibes wherever they roam.
We also say a fond farewell to one of Cumbria’s oldest businesses in Penrith, as N. Arnisons & Son prepares to close its doors for the last time. But as we say goodbye, there’s a chance to welcome something new: Threads of Agora, a fresh clothing boutique in Cockermouth. It’s wonderful to see new businesses bringing life to our high streets.
In this edition we spoke to the Beep Doctors, who perform life-saving work year after year, yet are still little known across Cumbria for the amazing work they do.
With Halloween looming, Muncaster Castle always goes all out, bringing a fantastic weekend of events for both kids and adults. Talking of Castles, how can we forget Greystoke Castle as they prepare their Mega Pumpkin Picking Patch – and of course, we can’t wait for the return of Penrith’s Winter Droving, which is always a highlight – a centuries-old tradition that continues to delight year after year.
Our food section is filled to the brim with seasonal recipes and highlights some of the fantastic local restaurants and pubs we have here in the county, so, whether you’re staying in and cooking up something to warm your bones, or heading out and avoiding a sink full, we have you sorted.
There’s so much coming up, and with the festive season just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to start preparing. Remember to support local businesses wherever possible. This time of year can be challenging for many high street shops, and even small gestures, buying directly or sharing an offer online, can make a real difference.
I hope you have a wonderful autumn filled with lots of adventures and joy, and I’ll see you in the winter.
Have fun, be good…
