Redmayne 1860 – Cumbria’s oldest and most trusted tailors

Redmayne 1860 – Cumbria’s oldest and most trusted tailors.

As Autumn arrives we inevitably think of the darker evenings ahead. And of course, Father Christmas will soon come knocking. There’s no doubt that it’s the time to plan parties. Work parties, family parties, after work drink parties.

Managing director of Redmayne, Claire Mahon says “ We’ve nearly 160 years of tailoring history, we know that smart people plan ahead, tailoring runs in cycles. It takes about 12 weeks to complete a suit, so people order in advance for each season.”

Visiting Redmayne, it’s clear this is a very busy time of year. Many are obviously looking forward to a new suit, to see out the old and welcome the new. Speaking to head cutter, Tom Mahon, he told us “It seems non-stop here in Wigton and at our Mayfair office in London. Also, we’ll visit 5 cities in the USA this November. Suits and sportcoats and dress wear is also in high demand”.

Dress wear…..You may be surprised to hear that people can’t get enough of elegant formal wear. In other words, the classic dinner suit in black or midnight blue. Yes, think of the iconic James Bond. Even the less formal velvet smoking jacket or as it’s now often called, the “entertaining at home jacket,” is very popular.

Molly Haney, Redmayne’s apprentice, told us “ We’re making a lot of classic dress wear which looks stunning.  At the moment we are making for a couple and each is having a velvet smoking jacket, one deep red and the other dark green. They look fantastic and lovely to wear. I guess they’re just enjoying the fun of just dressing well”

So there you have it. If you want to stand out in a stunning new dinner suit or enjoy the elegance of a velvet jacket, then you know where to come. Redmayne, a family business that’s unique and oozing with heritage. They’re clearly not just the destination for the county’s best dressed but many of the worlds also.

Redmayne..Dress well.
