For Windermere photographer Natasha Roberts, photography is more than simply taking a picture. It is a passion, an escape from everyday stresses and a way of connecting with the incredible landscapes and wildlife on her doorstep.
Natasha has been interested in photography for around 10 years, but began taking it seriously three to four years ago, focusing on wildlife photography over the past year.
Her passion began with a very special gift from her dad, who has always been her biggest inspiration. “Growing up he always had a camera in his hand,” Natasha says.
Following a difficult period with her health between 2014 and 2016, which resulted in brain surgery and a long journey to regain her strength, her dad gave her her first DSLR, a Nikon D70. “Initially what was a gift to get me back on my feet not only turned into the best gift I’d ever received, it changed my life.”
Living in the Lake District, Natasha initially photographed landscapes, sunsets and anything that caught her eye while out walking. Eventually, she began noticing the wildlife around her and wanted to challenge herself further. “From deer to foxes, birds of prey, it gives me such adrenaline and amazement to be ‘eye to eye’ with some incredible wildlife.”

In 2025, Natasha set herself a challenge to photograph roe deer, capturing everything from bucks and does to fawns, bluebell scenes and the rut. She estimates she took around 5,000 photographs, earning herself the nickname of the family “deer photographer”.
Her favourite image is a roe buck photographed in Windermere in July 2025, which appears to be smiling at the camera. The photograph has gained recognition within wildlife photography groups and has been printed onto canvas – and the front cover of a magazine 😉
Another unforgettable experience came when Natasha documented a family of foxes over three evenings, including a dog fox, vixen and two cubs. “The joy and just being there and able to watch them will live with me forever.”
Using a Nikon D7100 and Tamron lenses, including her new 150-600mm, Natasha focuses on capturing natural behaviour without disturbing the animals.
Her advice to aspiring photographers is simple: “Patience, practice and setting your own personal goal within your photography.”
Looking ahead, Natasha hopes to sell some of her work, explore new genres and continue developing her fine art photography.
“My inspiration has always been my dad and continuing to make both him and my mum proud of my work gives me my biggest sense of achievement.”
