Jill Glencross Family Funeral Directors Turns Seven
8th October marks seven remarkable years since Jill Glencross Independent Family Funeral Directors first opened its doors — and in that time, the Dalston-based business has become one of Carlisle’s most respected and award-winning funeral directors.
What began as a one-woman operation in 2018 has grown into a trusted name, built on compassion, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to personal care.
“I can hardly believe how far we’ve come,” says founder Jill Glencross, reflecting on the journey.
“There have been incredible highs and some really tough times, but the love and support from my immediate family, my team, and the families we care for have kept me going.”
A Journey of Heart and Resilience
Before taking the leap into funeral directing, Jill spent 24 years working at the Cumberland Infirmary.
The idea of starting her own business came almost unexpectedly when a friend in Dalston offered her premises to start something new.
From that serendipitous start, Jill has built something extraordinary.
Today, her company:
-
Employs 22 dedicated staff members
-
Operates from immaculate, welcoming premises
-
Runs a modern Mercedes fleet
-
And most importantly — maintains the same warmth and personal touch that set her apart from the beginning
The path hasn’t been without challenges.
In recent years, Jill has faced:
-
The sudden loss of her adored dad, Mike, in 2021
-
Her own health issues in 2022
Yet through it all, her determination and compassion have never wavered.
In 2020, Jill married her soulmate and business partner, Russell, who plays a key role in the growing firm. Together, they continue to expand and innovate, keeping family values at the heart of everything they do.
