Greystoke Castle: The next chapter

From Private Residence to Public Treasure: Greystoke’s Remarkable Revival.

by Stephen Murphy

Since Tom Nash took over the reins of Greystoke Castle three years ago, he hasn’t stopped planning and working on making Greystoke a destination site for the general public.

For 800 years, the castle was a family home and, thus, was private and open only to the residents.

Now, the castle grounds and halls are open to the public, who pay a small fee to enjoy the grounds, the castle, the café, and the new additions that Tom has been working on.

“Greystoke Castle is a fabulous family experience and also a great venue for the many events they hold year-round.”

These include The Little Knights & Princesses Play Area, which consists of an outdoor play arena complete with a bouncy castle, a play park, an area for riding sit-down pedal trikes, and a separate area for their motorized ride-on tractors, which the kids absolutely love. Recently installed, you will find a mechanical JCB, where the little ones can excavate safely.

Tom has also imported a pair of huge eagle owls, named Tarzan and Jane, alongside the resident peacocks that roam freely around the grounds of Greystoke.

More plans are on the way, so watch this space as things are consistently changing on a month-by-month basis.

Another fantastic addition to Greystoke Castle is the extension to the Butler’s Pantry, the Courtyard. A wonderful space where you can dine alfresco or cozy up to the fire and enjoy one of the many amazing bites, including pizza, jackets, salads, sandwiches, and subs.

Afternoon teas are a firm favorite, and wherever you choose to enjoy them—the Drawing Room, the Butler’s Pantry, or the Courtyard—the choice is yours.

A day out at Greystoke Castle is a fabulous family experience and also a great venue for the many events they hold year-round, including live music, comedy, and conferences. Greystoke is perfect for weddings, too.

Call in to check out the Dungeon Bar, the Courtyard Café, the Butler’s Pantry, the Kids’ Play Arena, or just come and explore the beautiful grounds and castle.

Christmas is coming, and with that, Santa will be taking up residence to entertain your little ones. Keep an eye on the website for information and updates.
