Travel to India and the West End with Theatre by the Lake’s upcoming programme of music – Jonathan Mayer and Kousic Sen in the blissful Music for the Mind and Soul on Wednesday 7 February

in the Studio, and The World’s Greatest Musicals as sung by The Westenders, who will be taking the Main House by storm on Thursday 15 February.

Music for the Mind and Soul is a soulful exploration of Indian Classical music by virtuoso sitarist Jonathan Mayer and world-renowned tabla maestro, Kousic Sen. The evening promises audiences the opportunity to escape the stresses of day-to-day life and enjoy a couple of hours of pure relaxation through some sublime music in the theatre’s intimate Studio space.

Jonathan Mayer

Jonathan Mayer’s versatility and distinctive approach are tribute to his education in both Indian and Western classical music. Jonathan is a composer and performer who’s appeared all over the world; this concert showcases his improvisations and compositions on the sitar.

He’s joined by one of the all-time greats on the tabla, Kousic Sen. A master-drummer from Kolkata, Kousic’s rhythmic mastery has become known around the globe, through his performances with leading musicians in many of the world’s most famous venues.

We then journey a little closer to home, and in the following week welcome the best of London to Keswick as The Westenders arrive at Theatre by the Lake with The World’s Greatest Musicals. In this musical collage, stars from the West End stage appear together in one acclaimed ensemble to perform hits from a number of iconic shows – including Les Misérables, Miss Saigon and Jesus Christ Superstar.

Having performed together for over a decade, this tight-knit group is one of the country’s leading musical theatre companies. Don’t miss a night of passion, drama and some unforgettable music from the world’s best-loved musicals (the perfect Valentine’s date, albeit a day after the main event!).
