Carlisle Cathedral and Rheged to host a Downton Abbey Gala Cinema Evening this October
This October the Rheged Centre in Penrith are set to step back to the art deco days of the 1930s with a very special Gala Cinema Evening, and a screening of the brand new Downton Abbey film on the centre’s fantastic big screen. The evening is in aid of Carlisle Cathedral’s Fratry Project with donations going towards the final appeal for this historic transformation in the heart of the city.
Helen Campion, Rheged’s Cinema manager shared her thoughts on the event. “We are delighted to be holding our first Gala Cinema evening at Rheged, in aid of Carlisle Cathedral’s Fratry project. This is a unique opportunity for visitors to experience an evening of glitz and glamour packaged with the much-loved Downton Abbey on our giant screen.”
Tickets are on sale now for this one-night-only gala on Sunday 13 October. Guests will be welcomed with a red-carpet drinks reception and live jazz to transport you back to the heady days of the 1930s, followed by a screening of the latest instalment of the Crawley family saga: Downton Abbey. Based on the much-loved TV show of the same name and featuring many original cast members, such as Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, and Hugh Bonneville, the new film follows the dramatic lives of the aristocratic Crawley family. The Gala Evening has a dress code to match: glamorous – so whether you’re a Lady Mary or a Dowager Countess of Grantham it’s a chance to sparkle.
This event will help Carlisle Cathedral to bring its historic Fratry building back to life. One of the most significant heritage buildings in the North West will finally be open and accessible to all – enabling the Cathedral to offer an exciting new programme of teaching and learning, arts, culture and other events. Standing alongside the newly refurbished Fratry will also be a stunning new café with spectacular views of the Cathedral. Find out more at www.carlislecathedral.org.uk/fratry.
Tickets for this very special evening are available from the Rheged ticket office, online at www.rheged.com, or by phone on 01768 868000. Tickets costs £25.00, which includes an optional £10 donation towards the Fratry Project Appeal.
Craig Carruthers, the Cathedral’s Head of Visitor Services, says, “We’re thrilled to see the progress on the Fratry project on track, and visitors to the Cathedral this summer have been excited to see the transformation up close. As we launch our final fundraising appeal we’re excited to have support from our friends at Rheged – and to have the chance to enjoy a glamour-filled evening in the company of the Crawley family on the big screen at last.”
