Dalston Tractor Run Returns After Huge Community Success
The hugely popular Dalston Tractor Run is returning on Sunday 17 May after an overwhelming response from the local community following last year’s inaugural event.
The event was founded by local couple Kathleen and Michael Burns to raise money for Eden Valley Hospice. Originally planned as a one-off fundraiser, organisers expected around 10 tractors to take part — but were astonished when 122 tractors arrived on the day.
The first event proved to be a tremendous success, attracting spectators of all ages and generating fantastic community support. Among those taking part were young children and families, alongside the winners of the vintage tractor section, the Osborne brothers, aged 90.
Following countless requests from attendees and local residents, the Dalston Tractor Run is now set to return even bigger this year.
The event welcomes all tractors, from modern machinery to cherished vintage models. Gates will open for tractor arrivals from 8am, with the public invited to attend from 10am onwards. The tractor convoy will depart at 12 noon, travelling more than 20 miles through local villages before reaching Burgh by Sands.
New for this year, organisers are also inviting owners of vintage vehicles to attend for a static vintage display, with the option to join the tractor run itself.
Entry for spectators is completely free, and organisers say one of the highlights of the day is the opportunity for visitors to meet tractor owners and learn more about the vehicles on display.
“Drivers love showcasing their tractors and chatting with families and enthusiasts,” the organisers said. “It’s become a fantastic community day out while raising money for an important local cause.”
All proceeds from the event will once again support Eden Valley Hospice.
