Cumbria Guide Issue 16: July-August 2023
What a llama drama it’s been for me of late.
A few weeks ago, I had a massive heart attack. I didn’t see any bright lights or hear angels harking hymns and beckoning me to step over, but I did see flashy blue lights and heard sirens as the team swooped in and carted me off to Carlisle Hospital’s CCU.
There, they unblocked my sticky, cloggy heart with a stent and looked after me with compassion, care, and commitment.
I can’t thank them enough, as I wouldn’t be here writing this. So, NHS folk, thank you lots!
Onwards and upwards from here, and a massive thanks for all the kind words and support offered.
We love summer, as there is so much to shout about.
Festival season is in full swing, and oh my word, there are so many big names heading to our fields.
Talking of fields, the country shows are back in abundance, and who doesn’t love watching all of the traditional games, competitions, and activities unfold as they have for centuries?
We spotlight some of the brilliant musicians from Cumbria, and some of the music being created is top-drawer.
We take a look at Cockermouth Mountain Rescue, who are celebrating 70 years, and we also hone in on some cracking independents who make our high streets what they are.
Solway Aviation Museum is holding a cracking event on July 23rd where a Lancaster Bomber will be flying overhead three times as part of the Battle of Britain 80th Celebrations.
It’s busy on the coast!
The Red Arrows will be doing a fly past along with an RAF parachutist Display as part of Maryport Rescue Fun Day on July 22nd, and Taste of the Sea returns to Maryport in August.Further down the coast, a Tall Ship will be sailing into Whitehaven Harbour on August 18th–21st.
Love art? We do. Check out Mark A. Pearce. What a talent! Take a look and let us know what your favourite piece is.
Right, you can’t do too much, doctor’s orders, so enjoy the summer, and once again, thank you to all for your lovely words.
