After three years, the Egremont Crab Fair is finally making a very welcome return on September 15th, 16th, and 17th. Egremont Crab Fair has been an annual event since 1267, and this year they celebrate their 755th birthday. As it’s also the comeback year, it’s set to be an event to remember.

All the traditional events, such as the World Gurning Championship, Pipe Smoking, Clay Pigeon Shooting, as well as the Wheel-Barrow Race, are also returning on Friday.

Callum Scott, Chairman of the Egremont Crab Fair committee said: “This year we are bringing back a typical Crab Fair event. There has been a lot of hard work put into this year’s event, and the hope is that in the following years we will be able to build on the event and bring back some bigger acts. We have extended the weekend into Sunday with Dancing in the Field, which will take place on the Crab-Fair field.  The last few years have been hard; we took a few blows, but we really hope this year will be the beginning of bringing the fair back!”

Dancing on the Street will return this year on Friday with a great line-up from Drums N Roses, Kerry Weir, The Mustangz, and more.

As well as the great lineup, the Crab Fair field will also host all the traditional field events and activities. Expect dog shows, a funfair, kids entertainment, and lots to do for everyone! Sporting events have always been a central part of the Crab Fair, and our athletic events are back this year and are your chance to shine.

Athletic events will take place on the Sports Field on Saturday, September 16, at 1 p.m. There are adult races of 90m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1600m, and youth races of 90m, 200m, and 800m.

There is prize money on offer for first to sixth place in each race, with the winner of each adult race taking home £80 and £40 in the youth races.
