CARLISLE PUB AWARDED PRESTIGIOUS AA ROSETTE!!!
The Queens Pub in Warwick-on-Eden is raising a glass after being crowned with an AA Rosette for culinary excellence, alongside a four-star rating for its cosy accommodation.
Now firmly etched on the foodie map, The Queens stands as the village’s only AA Rosette- awarded establishment.
Owned by Lancashire-based hospitality group, Thwaites, and run by Tim Frayne and Mike Fielder, the duo have worked tirelessly since taking The Queens’ helm two years ago – creating a welcoming spot where people can enjoy great food, a fantastic pint, and a comfy place to stay.
The AA Rosette scheme celebrates excellence in cooking, with one rosette awarded to restaurants that are achieving standards that stand out in its local area, including food prepared with care, understanding and skill, and with good quality ingredients.
Following the inspection, the AA praised the hospitality at The Queens, saying it ‘sets a great tone for a wonderful stay’ and that ‘the team’s friendly, natural approach makes guests feel right at home from the get-go.’
The major milestone is testament to the effort Tim and Mike have put into evolving the food offering, which serves a menu of classic pub favourites and bistro-style specials – all home cooked with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The AA was also impressed with the pub’s breakfast offering, calling it ‘a great start to the day’ and giving it an AA Breakfast Award.
Commenting on the award win, Tim Frayne, said: “Mike and I took over The Queens in May 2023, and it’s been a rollercoaster of good beer and great food ever since. I’ve been running pubs since 2014, from city-centre spots to countryside gems, and even a few with microbreweries thrown in – so yes, I’m a bit obsessed with cask ale!
“Our shared love for real ale and good values has helped us shape The Queens into what it is today. Partnering with Thwaites has been a game changer, and the support from the local community has been amazing. We’ve got big plans, and we can’t wait to see them come to life.”

Rustic in design, The Queens’ Garden Room provides a stunning setting to enjoy a meal, with plenty of natural light and beautiful views of the gardens. The exposed stone chimney and log burner add a cosy, country charm, making it especially inviting to walkers unwinding after a day exploring the nearby Warwick and Wetheral circular walk, trails through the Eden Valley, or riverside strolls alongside the River Eden
