The Big Pink Afternoon Tea
An Afternoon Tea with a difference is being held to raise awareness of breast cancer.
The Big Pink Woodland’s Afternoon Tea will take place on Saturday October 15 at The Woodlands Tea Room at Santon Bridge in a bid to raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Care.
For once, eating as many cakes, scones, biscuits and sandwiches will not be frowned upon, as raising as much money as possible is the aim of the game.
Organised by the Woodland’s Tea Room, the charity afternoon tea is taking place as an act of support to local fundraiser Hazel Clarke, who, over the past few months has been taking on multiple challenges including a 10k run and a trekking expedition in Peru.
Hazel said: “Since I took on this challenge to Peru in late August three other friends have been diagnosed with breast cancer so it is even more poignant. This whole thing is about raising awareness of breast cancer.
“Initially this was just me going to Peru trekking, but it has turned into the whole community being involved and just keeps growing. People are saying to me what are you going to organise next? Nancy Banks came up with the offer of hosting afternoon tea at Woodlands and the support with: helping to bake, donations of food and raffle prizes has been absolutely astounding. I’ve been blown away by the generosity of everyone.”
Up to now, Hazel has managed to raise more than £7,000 of her £10,000 target. Last weekend, organisers at the Wasdale Show donated £500 to the cause and along with that £1000 was collected in buckets from show visitors.
The afternoon tea will take place between 1pm and 4pm. No need to book, as a donation of just £10 will land you a fabulous afternoon tea made up of homemade cakes, tray bakes and scones as well as sandwiches and Prosecco. (£5 donation for children.)
There will also be a raffle with some rather impressive prizes up for grabs. Extra parking is available at the Santon Bridge Village Hall. All funds raised on the day will be donated to Hazel’s Just Giving page.
