FROM FRONT LINE TO THE FRONT DOOR: THE STORY BEHIND AJ SECURITY
How one man’s journey inspired a community-first security company thats transforming Cumbria!

When Adrian first started in security back in 1989, he never truly imagined how far the journey would go – and for how long! What started out as being a ‘bouncer’ at weekends, doing the doors of local pubs, eventually turned into something much bigger, and with a much more purpose.
Today, AJ-Security is one of Cumbria’s most trusted providers of security services for Security Guarding and Festival/Event security & Stewarding, plus not forgetting Door Supervision. The process was never about business alone, it was all about people.
After serving in the British Army throughout the 1990s, and returning home Adrian gained full time employment but couldn’t help assisting other firms and working pubs/clubs because the responsibility never left him.
In 2017, the tragic loss of William Richardson a friend to many and a local boxer, hit everyone hard, and saddened the community and the boxing world, locally and further afield, and he wanted to do something that really mattered. AJ-Security was founded immediately but didn’t go ‘live’ until January 2018 after all the relevant boxes ticked to give the best impression first that the company was serious about their services.
Our purpose has always been about doing things right, and in the best possibly way of protecting people, and creating a presence that genuinely reassures our clients, welcomes new ones and also peace of mind for the wider community.
AJ-Security is ideally located in Maryport and perfect to attend majority of locations throughout West Cumbria and the County. Our team of vetted SIA-licensed male and female officers, who all wear branded uniform, provide proactive and reliable duty of care, and commitment.
AJ-Security means doing it right, and it means investing in people, delivering it with pride, and never losing sight of what matters most, and why the company started.
All our staff are fully insured, PAYE and part of our expanding family, but we do not overstretch our resources leaving clients vulnerable, and we don’t use subcontractors for ongoing contracts, but we invest in getting the best from our team by training them through our sister company AJ Training Academy, also based in Maryport, and to meet any demand, we recruit locally from those unemployed who want to get back into work, or referrals from current employees that are aware of our expectations.

And this year, with Adrian being shortlisted for a national Inspiration award with the Ex-Forces in Business.
