Show & Tell – Bringing the community together and inspiring creativity

Show and Tell is a brand new exciting community organisation that aims to connect the community of Carlisle through creativity and a whole lot of fun.

Set up by Stephen Dunn in conjunction with Carlisle Matters, the idea is to hold annual events that centre around creative outlets, activities and also give the local community a sense of belonging, Stephen said:

“We wanted to bring something totally different to Carlisle. The whole idea of Show and Tell is to put on a show which is done through the amusements, live music and activities and the tell is through advice, signposting and learning new skills!”

Their inaugural event will take place on Sunday May 19th in Bitts Park. The free family day out will have loads to do for the entire family.

There will be a small funfair, diggers to play on, scouts teaching some of their outdoor skills and loads of arts and crafts activities to get involved with. There’s also some fun active games for both adults and children, laser quest, and even a football competition!

You can expect to hear some fantastic music from local musicians organised by RockWith on the main stage!

The May event is being held pre-summer and the general theme will be ‘Getting Active’. They are also doing a mass Yarn Bomb of the Mayors Walk where brightly coloured wool will adorn the trees, pom poms will hang from here, there and everywhere and it’s expected to be an explosion of colour!

Stephen said: “We want it to keep developing as time goes on and we are hoping to do that alongside local businesses. We want businesses throughout the community to come and get involved, whether it’s through sponsorship, workshops or anything else they feel they could offer.”

The event following May will be held in September with hopes to be even bigger and better than their premier. Stephen said: “Its all about engaging the community in creative projects and getting people thinking and ideas rolling and hopefully continuing to grow.

My hope is that we can one day make Bitts Park a community garden, with access to creative outlets and to give people a sense of belonging here in Carlisle and also tackle the issues surrounding mental health by implementing positive, creative engagement.”

With loads more to come over the next few months it seems Show and Tell are setting out to rebuild a sense of community and creative wellbeing within Carlisle and are so far succeeding!
