New Year, new season! The Kirkgate’s glittering new programme is underway…
The new season at the Kirkgate has landed featuring award-winning cinema, inspiring theatre, live music and community fun.
February brings well-regarded stage company Gonzo Moose to Cumbria, with their latest hit show ‘The Thing That Came From Over There’ (2 Feb). Inspired by the horror movies of the 1950s, the new show is a fast-paced ride, mixing paranoia, suspense and hilariously gruesome deaths. The first gig of the season comes in the way of D’Bleedin’Blaggards (17 Feb), offering a fusion of contemporary folk, roots, trad and country, with a dash of rock ‘n’ soul.
February at the Kirkgate could be tagged #filmfeb this year, with a sensational selection of award-winning home grown and international films. Featuring one of 2016s most talked-about British films ‘I Daniel Blake’ (13 Feb), alongside Friends fundraisers ‘Bridget Jones’ Baby’ (10 Feb) and ‘Swallows & Amazons’ (21 Feb) – charming family-fun filmed and set in the Lake District. You can keep the kids entertained over half term with the Kirkgate’s FREE Family Workshop (23 Feb).
For cycling fans, March brings 2Magpies Theatre to Cumbria with ‘Ventoux’ (3 Mar) – a contemporary restaging of the dramatic battle between Lance Armstrong and Marco Pantani in the Tour de France 2000. More star-studded blockbusters screen throughout March too, whilst the 2014 BBC Radio 2 Folk Award ‘Best Duo’ winners Phillip Henry & Hannah Martin (10 Mar) take to the stage.
