Muncaster Castle’s much-loved Annual Halloween Festival is back — and it’s bigger, bolder, and more bone-chilling than ever! Whether you’re after light-hearted spooky fun for the little ones or terrifying, scream-worthy thrills for the grown-ups, there’s something for all ages to enjoy.

From live performances and the infamous Scary Maze to hands-on activities, parades, and immersive experiences, the castle grounds will be alive with Halloween magic. So grab your costume, summon your courage, and prepare for an unforgettable journey into the shadows.

This year’s theme is Werewolves!


The Scary Maze

Do you have what it takes to make it through? Venture into the twisting corners of this chilling maze, filled with creepy characters, haunting surprises, and spine-tingling moments. Not for the faint of heart!


The Pumpkin Patch Returns

A family favourite, the pumpkin patch is back where you can choose your own pumpkin to decorate and take home! The first 2,500 children’s tickets come with a free pumpkin – so book early to avoid missing out!


Castle Show: Sherlock Holmes & the Curious Case of the Girt Dog

Step into the Castle Library for a live theatrical performance featuring everyone’s favourite detective. Holmes investigates a monstrous beast prowling the fells – but is it a hound, a werewolf… or something more sinister? A family-friendly show filled with circus acts, live music, and mystery.


Live Entertainment in the Gardens

Enjoy a wide range of performances throughout the festival grounds, including musicians, street performers, and captivating characters who roam the gardens with tricks and treats alike.


Spooky Trails

Follow winding Halloween-themed trails through the gardens and woodland – packed with eerie sights, hidden surprises, and a touch of seasonal mischief.


Parades

Get your best costume out and join in our spectacular Halloween parade! March through the grounds in ghoulish glory, or line the paths and enjoy the spooky spectacle.


The Weapons Hall – Have-a-Go Sessions

Explore the fascinating world of historical weaponry. Test your skills in a fun, hands-on experience with swords, shields, and more under expert guidance.


The Haunted Castle

We’ve all heard the rumours about the hauntings at Muncaster, but how true are they? Dare to enter the dimly lit State Rooms, where legends come alive and ghostly figures lurk in the shadows. Discover Muncaster’s eerie past in this immersive, self-guided experience and decide for yourself!


Costume Competition

Dress to impress — or distress! Prizes are up for grabs for the best Halloween costumes across multiple age groups. Whether you’re a wicked witch, scary skeleton, or pint-sized pumpkin, bring your best costume out.


Torchlight March

As night falls, join the torchlight procession through the grounds — a magical, hauntingly beautiful end to a day of Halloween festivities.

All Owls Eve

7pm daily | 25 October – 2 November

A magical twilight flying display featuring Muncaster’s majestic owls. Set against dramatic lighting and expert narration, this show reveals the nocturnal secrets of these incredible birds.

The Muncaster Express

Take the ultimate ghost train to the festival with West Coast Railways! Onboard entertainment, eerie views, and direct access to the fun.

Scarecaster (Ages 16+ Only)

30 October – 1 November | 8pm – Midnight

Enter if you dare… SCARECASTER is back with more terror, immersive scares, and freakish frights for over-16s only. With creepy encounters in the Scary Maze, roaming horrors in the gardens, and chilling surprises around every corner, it’s a Halloween night you won’t forget.

Take refuge in the Stable Yard Sanctuary with live music, hot food, and a licensed bar.
