Workington’s Hall Park will shine bright this winter with a magical light festival for the whole family.

Cumberland Council is expanding the Light District offering to Hall Park, Workington on Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December.
This enchanting event for all ages will transform the heart of Workington into a glittering wonderland after dark and is free to attend.
It is organised in partnership with the West Coast Creative People & Places program, Everyone Here and supported by the UK government and Arts Council England. The event is free to attend; no ticket is required; turn up and enjoy.
The event will transform the heart of Workington into a glittering wonderland after dark, shining a light on the town’s rich cultural heritage, which will see Workington Hall cloaked in light, colour, and sound, plus projections, performances, installations, and more to illuminate Hall Park.
Working alongside the council are two artists, Hannah Fox and Ronan Devlin, who are helping to bring the event to life. Local community members are also playing an important role in shaping the event. The Jury for Joy members helped devise the project at the beginning of the year, which has seen Hannah and Ronan working with local community groups in the lead-up to the event to create the magic needed to help bring Workington’s story alive in light form.
So far, the Light District events, which started in Carlisle and appeared in St Bees in 2024, have been spellbinding, amazing, and absolutely fantastic. We love them, and we know you will too.
Remember, the event is free; no ticket is required. Turn up and take it all in. There will be a small amount of concessions so please bring cash where possible.
It will run both evenings from 5:30pm to 8:30pm and will be fully accessible. Everybody is welcome to join the fun. Bring your cameras and be prepared to be amazed!

What is the location of Hall Park Light Works?
The event is located in Hall Park in Workington. This is the location of grade 1 listed ruins of Curwen Hall, the ancestral home of the Curwen family, who were lords of the manor.

What are the dates and times for Hall Park Light Works?

The event will run between 5.30pm and 8.30pm on both days. Visitors are invited to drop in throughout that time – it is envisaged the experience should take approximately 45 mins to an hour.
What is the recommended route through the park for Hall Park Light Works?
Visitors are asked to make their way to the Horse Close Entrance adjacent to Horse Close car park and skate park to experience Hall Park Light Works in full. Please note the Ladies Walk entrance will be an exit only for the period of the event.
Do I need to buy a ticket for Hall Park Light Works?
No. The event is not ticketed and free to attend.
Is Hall Park Light Works accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs?
Yes. The park has a hard pathway throughout and the recommended route sticks to the tarmac route. Be aware that although every effort has been made to clear the route, the time of year means that there will be fallen leaves and possibly puddles!
What is being featured at Hall Park Light Works?
The Light Works will take you on a magical journey through the park. It will feature a “Glittering Grove” and “Luminosi Tree” from artist Dan Fox, a specially commissioned new digital artwork, “Workington Cosmos” by Ronan Devlin, a specially commissioned installation featuring live performers, “Iron Horse Junction” from artist Hannah Fox and a specially commissioned soundscape featuring recordings with Workington Town Band from digital artist Ant Dickinson. Fluid Productions will be dressing the landscape with their enormous collection of theatrical lights and the brilliant West Cumbria Guild of Model Engineers will be running a train on the miniature railway throughout the event.
Will there be food and drinks available at the event?
There will be a couple of stalls selling food and hot beverages.
Can I bring my own food and drinks?
Yes. Visitors are welcome to bring their own food and drinks however alcohol is strictly prohibited. Visitors are reminded to use the waste and recycling bins available.
Will there be toilets at the event?
Yes. There will be toilets on site including an accessible toilet. These will be located centrally close to the walled garden.
Can I bring my dog to the event?
Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times. Please note that they must be comfortable with large crowds, flashing lights and loud noises.
Will Hall Park remain accessible during the day?
Yes. Hall Park will remain accessible throughout the event build and delivery for walkers and visitors to West House. However, we do ask for understanding and patience as there will be work in progress, barriers for safety at night time and security staff on site 24hrs.

Please note that Central Car Park is closed whilst building works are taking place and that the Multi Storey Car Park will close at 7pm.
There will be additional parking at Workington Academy just off the Stainburn roundabout. Visitors can then walk the short distance to the Horse Close entrance to the hall.
