The Great Big Green Week – what’s going on in your area?

Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council are informing the public that Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS), a climate change charity, are sharing events that they have provided funding for during The Great Big Green Week, 10-18 June 2023.

Cumbria County Council originally allocated £6,000 to Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS), and have been developed in partnership with Cumberland Council, Westmorland and Furness Council and CAfS.


There are many different events that people can attend, giving them the opportunity to do something new and exciting, here are just a few:

  • Growing the Roots – Maryport, Tuesday 13 June from 2.30pm – 5.30pm at Ewanrigg Community Centre, CA15 8HN : Organiser: Friends of the Earth
  • An open day at Gosling Sike on Wednesday 14 June, from 10am – 4pm.  It will consist of short talks by a variety of speakers from Cumbria Wildlife Trust, Garden Organic, Cumbria Action For Sustainability, RSPB and others, as well as wildflower nursery tours and garden walks.   • Great Big Green Week Stanwix Event – Stanwix Community Centre, Carlisle on Saturday 17 June from 10.30 am – 1.30 pm
  • Harbour Sessions at Whitehaven Harbour, on Saturday 17 June from 5pm – 7pm, CA28 6BS

Councillor Denise Rollo, Cumberland Council’s Executive Portfolio Holder for Sustainable, Resilient and Connected Places, is thrilled that Cumberland Council supports the Great Big Green Week. She added:

“Climate change poses a global threat, impacting us locally. This campaign urges us to consider our actions and join in tackling climate change. I applaud the grant recipients and encourage as many people as possible to get involved in the events taking place across the Cumberland patch. By working together, we can all make a difference and reduce our impact on the planet.”
