There’s something special about fish and chips. The crispy light batter coating a flaky white fillet, complemented by fluffy chips doused in salt and vinegar, is British cuisine at its finest, and The Dalston Fryer has got it down to a T!
Having closed in 2024, former manager Carla just couldn’t stand by and watch it disappear, so she fought to reopen it herself and did just that. Carla re-opened the much-loved village chippy in December, much to the delight of the people of Dalston and the surrounding area.
The Dalston Fryer is a traditional chippy, where Fish is the main offering alongside a menu full of other familiar delights such as sausages, fish cakes, pizzas, burgers, and donner kebabs, but it’s their fish that makes them stand out from the rest. Fresh, light, and crisp!
“Since re-opening, we have been extremely busy,” says Carla, “I worked as a manager here for five years, so when the shop closed, I was really worried, it was a scary time for me and all the staff, people ask me if I was nervous to take it on, but to be honest I was more scared of not getting it and what would become of the shop! All the young staff here are local to the village, and we have many regular customers, it would have been very sad to see it remain closed.”
Carla has worked in many chip shops in the area and also worked for a long time as a local bus driver at Reays, so she is well known in the area, Carla said: “I have had many of my old passengers coming to the chip shop since we re-opened, the support from the community has been incredible.”
The Dalston Fryer is open until 9pm, Monday-Saturday;
- Mondays to Thursdays: 11:30 to 13:30 and 16:00 to 21:00
- Fridays and Saturdays: 11:30 to 21:00
