Test transmissions start & lead boy band member joins presentation Line up.

Test transmissions have started for the new Community radio station for Carlisle, CRFM on 102.7fm. Engineers spent all last Monday erecting the new aerial and installing the new transmitter at the top of the Civic centre in Carlisle.

Early indications are that the station can be heard as far Northeast as Brampton, across to Low Hesket in the South, Brough by Sands to the West and Wigton to the Southwest of the City of Carlisle. Exactly the footprint of the old City of Carlisle that we wanted to reach explained Darrell Thomas, Station MD.

“We have also secured the talents of Lee Brennan, lead singer of 90s boy band 911.

It’s great to hook up with Lee again says Darrell, I remember receiving a tape and photo from him some 30 years ago explaining that he wanted to be a singer. One quick call to my mate at Backlash management in Glasgow and Lee became the lead singer of 911, that’s how dreams are made into a reality, you should always push for the top,” added Darrell.

Lee, Spike & Jimmy formed 911 in 1995 and had ten top 10 hits and two No.1’s, selling 10 million records worldwide. In February 2023 the group had a No.1 on all platforms in Vietnam with their ballad ‘I Do’, and the music video has had over 63 million views on YouTube since release.

Lee will host a show called “The Pop Rewind” on a Friday evening from 19.00 hrs to 22.00, where he will be playing a mixture of pop, disco and chart music from the 80s 90s and 0’s, so listeners can relive the days when Buskers, Ruby Tuesdays and the Pagoda were the go-to venues back in the day. We may even hear the odd 911 track Darrell added.
