Teddy Bears Get Set To Take Over Vulcan Park – This summer Workington Town Council have organised some great days out and events to entertain the whole family throughout the summer holidays!

Starting with a Teddy Bear Picnic hosted in Vulcan Park on August 9th. Bring your teddy and a picnic to the park. There will be plenty of fun and entertainment as well as face painting.

​Rainbow Wishes Foundation will be on hand with their teddies for imaginative play around the park and storytelling adventures. So grab your teddy and a picnic and come join in the fun.

Get your running shoes out because August 14th sees the return of the Festival of Running takes place in and around the town. Organised in conjunction with Cumberland Athletic Club, runners will have the opportunity and choice to run in either a 1K Fun-Run, or if you are looking for more of a challenge there is also a 5K and 10K run.

Races will start at Workington Leisure Centre and will take you out and around Workington, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful scenery while motivating you to run your fastest race.

Whilst the runners are out picking up the pace the rest of the family and supporters can head on to the Leisure Centre where there will be children’s entertainment, crafts and stalls! It’s a great way to spend the day and even introduce the little ones to the benefits of running!

Registration will be at the Leisure Centre and opens at 11:00 am for all races. Please note that entries on the day will not be taken after 12:15 pm

Prices and Timetables are as follows:

  • 1K fun run – FREE (optional fancy dress) Starts at 12 pm
  • 5K – £6 (£4 for UKA affiliated runners) (150 total runners) Startås at 12.30 pm
  • 10K – £10 (£8 for UKA affiliated runners) (150 total runners) Starts at 1.30 pm.

The end of August brings a bank holiday Family Fun Day to Harrington Marina on August 27th! ​This family-friendly community event is a free, great day out for families.

As well as live music, a fun fair, stalls, crafts, face painting and children’s entertainment, the fire & police services, blood bikes, ambulance and lifeboats will showcase what they do and show how vital they are to our community.
