Carlisle’s Vets4Pets puts pain relief at the forefront.

We are really excited to have been awarded the much sought after accreditation as a zero pain practice. At the time of receiving this award, we were 1 of only 15 practices to have this in the country.
As animals cannot communicate their feelings, we are absolutely committed to ensuring that the very best standards of pain management are used in our practice by all of our team.

What does this mean for your pet? We use the strongest opioid pain relief for all our surgical procedures, from routine surgeries to advanced orthopaedic operations. We also use a range of local anaesthetic techniques to ensure that patients do not experience any avoidable pain. This includes local anaesthetic blocks for neutering wounds and oral nerve blocks for dentals. All our inpatients are pain scored regularly using species specific assessment charts. This allows us to accurately monitor the levels of pain being experienced and intervene with additional pain relief if it is required.

As our pets age many will develop ongoing pain due to arthritis or other chronic diseases. We help our clients recognise if their pet is in pain and then believe in taking a holistic approach to their ongoing care. Alongside traditional pain relief medications, many of our patients are offered physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and acupuncture to help their comfort. We are proud to have a Registered Veterinary Nurse specially trained in physiotherapy and is available in clinic for all our clients. All of these treatments can help improve a patient’s quality of life, range of movement and pain management. If used early these therapies can also delay the onset and severity of these diseases. We again use ongoing pain scoring in these patients to allow us to continually meet their requirements as they change.
As part of this award, all of our dedicated small animal team have received the most up to date training in pain management and several of our team members have undertaken advanced study in this area.
Client testimonial
“Following an accident in 2023 our dog Willow had to undergo multiple surgeries for a range of orthopaedic problems. Willow is a very complex case but the care and support she has received from Lisa and her team has been amazing.
Our goal has always been to keep Willow as comfortable as possible throughout her treatment and recovery. Willow attends regular check-up appointments where her pain management is monitored closely.
Although prescription pain relief is very important to Willow, Lisa has also made referrals for alternative therapies such as hydrotherapy, physiotherapy and acupuncture. Having access to all these alternative therapies has been very beneficial for Willow’s ongoing rehabilitation
and she is doing much better as a result.”

Vets going the extra mile for your pets comfort!
