The Queens at Warwick-on-Eden is raising a well-earned glass after scooping its very first AA Rosette for culinary excellence, plus a shiny four-star rating for its cosy accommodation. After only two years in the Queens, managers Tim and Mike have worked tirelessly to transform this village pub into somewhere really special.
Since taking the reins in May 2023, co-owners Tim Frayne and Mike Fielder have turned The Queens into a real destination, somewhere you can tuck into great food, enjoy a proper pint, and feel right at home. The AA inspectors were clearly impressed, praising the pub’s “friendly, natural hospitality” and even handing out an AA Breakfast Award for what they called “a great start to the day.”

Food here is all about keeping it local. Tim and Mike work with trusted suppliers like Steven Wilson’s Butchers and Bells Fishmongers to make sure every dish is fresh and full of flavour. You’ll find all the classics, fish and chips, homemade pies, juicy burgers, alongside bistro-style specials. Sundays are a feast, with a choice of two or three roasts that might include beef, pork, lamb, chicken, or even pheasant if you’re lucky.

But The Queens isn’t just about the food. It’s also become a bit of a village living room. There’s WI darts practice, Knit and Natter Mondays, Cumberland Show organiser meetings, plus live music nights and beer festivals. Families love the dedicated kids’ menu and the play area in the sunny, south-facing beer garden, while four-legged friends are welcome throughout the pub and rooms.
Speaking of rooms, there are five beautifully refurbished en-suites, making The Queens the perfect base for exploring the Eden Valley, riverside strolls along the River Eden, or nearby walking trails. The light-filled Garden Room is a top spot for a meal, while the exposed stone chimney and log burner bring that cosy country-pub magic.
“They bring people together over great food, a proper pint, and a variety of entertainment.”
Tim said: “We are so pleased to get this far so soon. It’s a big step toward the goals we set out when we took over and it all happened a lot sooner than expected. We give a lot of the credit to our staff who are all just fantastic. This is a huge milestone for us in this journey. Our goal has always been to provide a premium product but retain the heart of traditional pub grub. What we are offering customers is quality pub food and we’re really proud of what we do and really look forward to the future.”

The Queens at Warwick on Eden have done something fantastic. They haven’t reinvented the wheel — instead, they’ve taken the very best of traditional British pub food and that all-important community spirit, and elevated it. The result? The dishes we all know and love, made even better.
Their deep connection to the community is part of what makes them truly special. With a year-round roster of events, they bring people together over great food, a proper pint, and a variety of entertainment.
The next event on their calendar is set to be a highlight: a Wine & Tapas Evening held on September 26, where guests can enjoy an array of delicious tapas dishes, each perfectly paired with a carefully chosen wine.
There are more events set for the winter season too so keep an eye on their socials for updates.
From excellent food to a proper pint and good old-fashioned craic, The Queens at Warwick on Eden is setting the standard and bringing the great British pub back to life.
