Carlisle City Of Lights – 23 – 25 February

Carlisle City Of Lights – 23 – 25 February Once again Carlisle will be illuminated as the City of Lights returns, and this time they are celebrating science.

The event will be held over three evenings – Thursday 23, Friday 24 and Saturday 25 February with time slots beginning at 6.45 pm and ending at 9 pm each day.

The last City of Lights show saw the celebration of 1900 years of Carlisle’s Roman history, which also coincided with the 900-year celebration of Carlisle Cathedral, and what a show that was!

Carlisle’s Destination Manger, Paul Walker, said, “It is an absolute pleasure to bring back Carlisle City of Lights, these events bring thousands of people into Carlisle, and each event is different, spectacular and moving.

To have this so early on in the year will be a real boost to the city, and we are really looking forward to this year’s event which celebrates the sciences”

These shows are short, dynamic, and oh-so-sweet. Combining music with amazing, authentic visuals that are never to be seen again makes them a bit more special. Talk about living in the moment.

This will be the fourth time that Carlisle will be illuminated with light, music, and drama, but hopefully not the last.

The event will feature the lighting of the city’s key historic landmarks and a spectacular sound and light experience inside and outside Carlisle Cathedral, the grounds of Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery and Carlisle Castle.

Peter Walker from Luxmuralis said

“Visitors will view individual light and sound art installations created digitally and artistically by the artistic collaboration ‘Luxmuralis’. Viewers are immersed in the soundscapes they hear and walk through the light artworks that are all around them on an explorative journey.

The artwork ‘Science’ is designed to enable people to explore and contemplate the contributions of science and human understanding of the physical world around us.

The artwork explores chemistry and biology and interprets artistically the scale of molecules, cells and DNA, as well as exploring the history of science, the contributions of science to humanity, and offers a reflection upon famous scientists past and present.”

Since its inception, Carlisle City of Lights has seen bigger and bigger crowds attend year after year, bringing much joy to all who come along and lots of cheer to the local business community, which benefits from the footfall into Carlisle.

City of Lights is organised by the Discover Carlisle team (Carlisle City Council) and Luxmuralis in association with Cumbria County Council.

Tickets are now on sale from the Carlisle Tourist Information Centre and DiscoverCarlisle.co.uk

Tickets provide access to all the venues on the same night.
