From tractor to table with Ollievander’s of Cumbria
When it comes to food there is no argument that fresh and local is king, luckily for us here in Cumbria Ollievander’s fresh produce shop is on our doorstep on Cockermouth high street…
Owned by Vannessa and Mark, the beautiful little shop is filled to the brim with a huge variety of produce, Vannessa said:
“We moved to Cumbria to find a better quality of life and we knew from the beginning that if we were going to open a business we wanted to make sure we would be supporting other local businesses and farmers, which is what we are achieving so far.”
Ollievanders opened in late 2023 and is a small family run independent business offering locals the opportunity to shop for the highest quality fruit, vegetables and groceries, with the vast majority of their stock being sourced from local producers.
They use various farmers and producers from around the county and there is no denying the freshness achieved when you buy from a farm shop like this, Vanessa said:
“lots of the veg is as fresh as it comes, for example our carrots will be dug this evening and dropped off in the morning, meaning sometimes it’s not even out of the ground for 24 hours before its on your roast dinner!”
Not only can you guarantee fantastic quality when shopping at Ollievanders, but also they have ensured it’s all priced reasonably. Many people worry that it’s going to be much more expensive when buying from a farm shop but that’s not always the case, although slightly more expensive than shop bought, the quality bears no comparison.
The beauty of shopping for your produce with Ollievanders is that you also get a bespoke and personal service, Vannessa said: “We have had customers come to the shop and request particular items that we have then ordered in, for example we had one lady come in and told us her favourite jam wasn’t currently stocked, so we bought it in and were glad we did because it’s currently one of our most popular conserves!”
They are also now stocking their fruit and veg boxes which are made to order and can either be collected in store or delivered to your door. These are fantastic for anyone who enjoys the convenience of having fresh local produce ready and waiting! They are very flexible too meaning you can either ask for specific items in your box or request a ready made box which will be made up by the team that day, it’s totally up to you.
And if you love the idea of having this kind of freshness every week then you can even subscribe and have a regular delivery of high quality local produce either on a weekly or monthly basis!
As well as their fruit and vegetables they also stock local honeys (great for hayfever season), locally made conserves, their eggs come from a farm just down the road from them and even dairy products such as cheeses, butters and milk!

Ollievander’s have also recently opened their sister shop Hollie and Belle, a beautiful florist on Station Street in Cockermouth where you’ll find everything for your floral needs.
