NEW YEAR, NEW CASH: Turn your clutter into extra pennies
NEW YEAR, NEW CASH
Turn your clutter into extra pennies.
by Danni Murphy
January is always tough on the wallet. After the festive splurges, many of us are feeling skint, and the credit card bills are coming in. But did you know that the odds and sods tucked away around your home could actually put a few pounds back in your pocket?
All those random knick-knacks taking up space in cupboards, sheds, or drawers, the things you’re keeping ‘Just in case’, might be worth more than you think. It’s the perfect time to declutter after the Christmas chaos and make room for the new gifts and goodies that came into your home over the holidays.
Got scrap metal lying around?

Auto Vehicle Salvage (AVS) in Cumbria will happily take it off your hands and pay you for it. Even a few pounds for rusting items in your shed is better than letting them gather dust. Every little bit helps, whether it’s topping up your January food shop or treating yourself to a little post-Christmas indulgence in the sales.

Jewellery and antiques?

Those old gold, silver, or costume pieces hiding in drawers, or antiques tucked away underappreciated, could have real value. Cathedral Lodge Antiques offers valuations and will give you a fair price for your items. Dust them off, get them assessed, and see what you could walk away with.
Tools and other household items?

Let’s be honest: most of us have more tools than we’ll ever use, and getting them out of the shed can feel like an Olympic event. JB Banks will come to your home, appraise your old tools, brass, copper, and other items, and take them away, paying you for everything they collect.
So, this January, pick up the phone, check out the local businesses in this magazine, save the numbers, and turn your post-Christmas clutter into cash. It’s a great way to start the year lighter, tidier, and a little richer!
