40 Years on and still going strong!
This year Kirkland Carpets and Bed Center celebrate an amazing 40 years in business. The Cleator Moor based company was originally set up in 1982 by Mike Dunsmoir, and has continued to grow ever since.
40 years after Mike initially opened the doors his sons Alistair and Andrew have kept the business going and now even Alistair’s son is part of the team, making it three generations in the business. It really is a family affair!
Being an independent local business ran by members of the community means Alistair and his team can offer customers something they simply cannot get anywhere else, Alistair said: “We are not like the big retailers, we know most of our customers on a first name basis and we are not strangers, we’re local people.
Many of our clients are children or even grandchildren of past customers. Trust is something we feel our clients have with us, we know this because some of them even just give us their house keys and trust us to go to their homes without them even being present!”
It is this level of trust and loyalty that has enabled the family business to flourish and move forward – they have moved on massively since they opened in 1982, as well as stocking carpets, wooden flooring, lino as well as bed frames and mattresses, they also stock quality artificial grass.
They have recently implemented an easy finance scheme, which means customers can spread the cost of their products for upto 24 months, with the first 4 months being interest free!
With the current economic situation and families struggling financially, it’s reassuring to know that there are businesses out there that are working harder to help their community where possible. A wonderful example and one of the many reasons why this company has stayed in business for 40 years!
