Gals who Gig Cumbria – We all love live music, it’s a fact, there’s nothing better than going to a gig and seeing a great band live. Sadly, so many women pass up on the opportunity to go to these events because they don’t have anyone to go with – that’s why Shelby Leigh set up ‘Gals who Gig – Cumbria’.
Gals Who Gig – Cumbria is a facebook group where women can interact, support and hopefully make friends with other women who are in a similar situation, Shelby explained: “I set it up because I noticed that a lot of the bigger cities have these groups where women can meet each other and feel safe going to gigs and events instead of going alone.
When I finished school I stayed in Cumbria but found that many of my friends either left or moved on with their lives and I was left feeling quite lonely and I think this is much more common than people realise. I thought offering this kind of group to women in Cumbria would be a good platform for people to socialise and meet new friends as well as enjoy live music with like minded people.”
Loneliness is one of the biggest causes of depression in the UK and unfortunately it is something many of us experience. Groups like this are a fantastic way of tackling the issue. Everyone who joins the facebook group is vetted and their profiles checked before they are accepted and everyone is urged to meet up in person before attending an event together.
If you are a woman who loves live music and events but often finds herself with a spare ticket or no one to go with then join the group; it’s open to all women aged 16 and above. Shelby is excited for the future of this brand new group and hopes it will help bring ladies who love music together.
