So that’s it. As we wave goodbye to 2023, we welcome in the new year with open arms. This year brings with it lots of exciting things to come and we have laid out this magazine with the hopes of alleviating some of those January blues.
In this edition of the guide, we want to awaken the adventurer in you. With the inspiring story of seven-year-old Frankie McMillan, who is taking the outdoors by storm, breaking records, and is set to speak at a national outdoor event, there seems to be no stopping this little adventure seeker!
We also delve into the story behind the epic 144-mile round-trip walk that is the Lakeland Way. A brand new way to explore our county by foot was designed by one man and his late dog.
When we asked you to send us your favourite photos capturing Cumbria in winter, we knew we’d get some belters, but we really didn’t expect the sheer volume of jaw-dropping images. In light of that, you’ll be happy to see we have spread our Winter Photo showcase over four pages. Thank you to each and every person who sent in photos to us. If you didn’t make it into the spread this time, we will keep your photos on file for future showcases.
This edition also features a little bridal section for anybody thinking of saying ‘I do’ over the next 12 months or beyond. It highlights some of the fantastic local businesses that can add something special to your big day.
Of course, the mag is filled with fantastic local businesses, and this year we encourage you to please try and use these independents. We want to see more businesses opening and less closing this year, and that can only happen if you step through the door..
There are loads of events coming up throughout the year, and tickets for many are either already on sale or will be very soon, so don’t miss out; get planning now.
Over all, we know January can be a little bleak, but with such a bright year ahead,
I think we can all agree there’s still plenty to smile about.
