Agricultural Shows – Wellies at the ready, it’s show time!

Cumbria was founded on agriculture.

It’s in our blood, and each year our local villages and towns celebrate farmers and breeders by holding Agricultural shows. They are an opportunity for the community to come together and for those with livestock to show off their hard work.

There are various shows held countywide from June until the end of September, and each year they see thousands of people head out to enjoy the day, take stock of the competition and reconnect with the community. It’s a grand day out filled with pride, laughter, and usually quite a few pints.

Expect to see an eclectic mix of different breeds of animals; from Cows to Cockerels, sheep, and dogs, there are all kinds to see. But it isn’t just the animals that draw all the attention, these shows are a great family day out.

Most have activities and games for the children to get involved with; there are often stalls, raffles, and tombolas; of course, it wouldn’t be a Cumbrian agricultural show without Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling, an age-old tradition that’s great fun to see.

Many of these shows ask for a small entry fee, which allows them to continue the show into the following year, so it’s really important that we support them. Here at The Cumbria Guide, we hugely support our local farmers, and these shows are a fantastic way to meet those in our communities that work so tirelessly for that milk in your morning coffee or the burger you had for tea last night.

They take place all over the county, so to make it much easier for you to find your nearest Agricultural show, we have compiled a whole list of those that are taking place throughout this Summer, from North to South Cumbria and everywhere in between!
