West End actor brings comic creation to Theatre by the Lake in Get a Life! Get a Life Coach!

In need of a pick me up? Then let us introduce you to Violet Sackville-Rhode. The one-woman-whirlwind from Derbyshire comes to Keswick on 15 February in comedy show Get a Life! Get a Life Coach! devised and performed by West End actor Philip Cox.

The elderly, eccentric and irrepressible Violet Sackville-Rhode reminds us that there is more to gardening than weapons of moss destruction; more to adventurous cooking than flagellated beans; and more to opticians than meets the eye.

She’s a lifestlye guru with a motivational mantra to die for. She’s the house doctor without a house. She had decking before anyone knew what it was called. In her one-woman show, she talks; she sings; and she sits down for long periods without the aid of Glucosamine.

The show might not change your life but it may well make you want to change your wind chimes.

Actor Philip Cox’s West End credits include The Mousetrap, Les Misérables and Joseph, and he recently performed in The Merchant of Venice with Jonathan Pryce at Shakespeare’s Globe. Of his delightfully dotty creation he said: ‘The original idea for Violet Sackville-Rhode came from a playing a character in the musical Boorskale by Paul Tomkinson at Westcliff-on-sea and at the Players Theatre in Charing Cross. The character took on a show of her own which was then performed at the Buxton and Brighton festivals as well as several touring venues – and we’ve been on an adventure together ever since’.

Described as “A beautifully crafted journey through the thought process of a favourite auntie on the verge of self-destruction” (Romford Recorder) and “A heart-warmingly funny trip on the charabanc of life” (Buxton Festival Fringe) it promises to be a hilarious evening out in the company of one extraordinary and unforgettable woman.

Get a Life! Get a Life Coach! is on at the Theatre by the Lake, Wednesday 15 February at 7.30pm in the Studio, with tickets at £10. For more information see www.theatrebythelake.com or call the box office on 017687 74411.
