REGIONAL CRICKET TEAM SNAPS UP LOCAL YOUNG CRICKETER AS AN “EMERGING PLAYER”

A local young cricketer has been selected to train with the Lancashire Thunder Cricket Team following an incredibly successful career in the sport so far.

Maddie, a Year 11 student at St Bees School, has always been a dedicated player, and can often be seen representing Cumbria in the sport while scooping of various accolades along the way.

It is this success that has caught the eye of the Lancashire Thunder team, who have invited Maddie to train with them through their Emerging Player Programme with the view to be invited to join their academy.

The team represents the three counties in the North West region – Cumbria, Lancashire and Cheshire, and is comprised of some of the best female talent in northern cricket.

Maddie says “it’s so amazing to be selected for this opportunity when very few people were selected in the whole North West region”

In addition to this amazing opportunity, Maddie has recently been awarded the “Rising Star Award” at the recent Cumbria Cricket Awards and has also been nominated for an award at the Cumbria Junior Sports Awards which are to be held later this month.

Mr Robin Silk, Headmaster of St Bees School, is extremely proud of Maddie and her achievements.

“As one of the school’s pioneer students – those who joined the school when it re-opened in 2018, it’s fantastic to see Maddie achieve so much in cricket alongside her studies with us at St Bees.

She received our Senior Sportsperson of the Year award during our prize-giving ceremony just before the summer break. Her unwavering dedication to the sport is admirable, and we are very lucky to have such an inspirational role model for our other students.”
