Christmas Is Coming to Oak Tree Animals’ Charity

Christmas Is Coming to Oak Tree Animals’ Charity – After several challenging months, we look forward to ending the year on a positive note.

Coronavirus has altered the lives of so many; as a charity based in Wetheral, near Carlisle, we have seen the need for help and support in our community surge as people look to make sure their pets are cared for through these troubling times.

Our committed team and incredible supporters rose to the challenge during the pandemic.  We saw a six-fold increase in our pet food bank provision and continue to meet the growing demand for neutering, veterinary care and our Helping Paw fostering programme – for those fleeing domestic violence or homelessness.

As anticipated, after a quiet couple of months rehoming, we have seen a significant increase in animal intakes recently. Thankfully, many animals have stopped with us a short time before finding their forever home but some get overlooked for a variety of reasons.

The reality is, whether it’s to do with age or looks, these animals often make the most affectionate pets and simply need a chance to shine.

Take Ruby, a recently rehomed Lurcher.  Ruby is a super affectionate and sweet older girl (9 and a half) who had been searching some time for her retirement home. A gentle soul, Ruby suffers from separation anxiety and requires someone to be around the majority of the day until time can be built up alone. We have everything crossed that Ruby’s prospective home works out and she will settle in no time.

Our office was operating with skeleton staff throughout the crisis and it’s not possible to personally acknowledge every single act of kindness shown to us during this time. You may have donated via text, Facebook, our website, Virgin Money Giving, sent a cheque, taken on a fundraiser or donated food and treats. If you have been able to help in some way, we are enormously grateful.

The need for funding will never go away: please keep responding to our requests when you can – we can’t emphasise what a difference your continued contributions make.

Oak Tree helped 2,060 animals in 2019 – 520 of which were rehomed.  We are on course to help many more this year. We rely entirely on our supporters to fund our work.

There are plenty of ways to get involved:
