Joe Stilgoe’s Songs On FIlm and MGM Movie Magic At Theatre By The Lake
Joe Stilgoe, the internationally acclaimed jazz singer, pianist and songwriter, is coming to Keswick for one night only on Monday 13 February with his smash hit show Songs on Film on national tour following his sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe, followed closely by The MGM Story on 14 February, a musical drama which traces the history of the Golden Age of Song and Dance.
Songs on Film is nearing the end of its tour and has had a rapturous reception across the country. The show, featuring Joe and his remarkable band, includes some of the all-time great tunes from the movie world, from Disney tunes to Tarantino soundtrack classics, arranged in original and stylish orchestrations with Joe’s trademark flair. As a born performer (son to national treasure Richard Stilgoe) Joe’s charm and charisma mean his live gigs are renowned as much for his showmanship as for the music itself.
Close on its heels is another night of movie music magic with The MGM Story which tells the tale of how the studio fostered the talents of stars, including Judy Garland and Gene Kelly, and composers such as Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and many more.
A brand new musical revue it includes songs from favourite films including Singin‘in the Rain, An American in Paris, Annie Get Your Gun, The Wizard of Oz, and Meet me in St. Louis. Set on a disused film set, a West End cast take on the role of narrating the studio’s story in between the familiar tunes and fantastic tap routines, all accompanied by a superb four-piece band.
Tickets for Joe Stilgoe’s Songs on Film and The MGM Story are priced at £18, £15 and £10. To find out more or book tickets, visit www.theatrebythelake.com
