SUMMARY:Hallelujah! A Christmas Concert
DESCRIPTION:Christmas is a special time in any church\, but for St James’ church Denton Holme the end of 2017 marks the end of a significant year: its 150th anniversary.  \nTo mark the occasion the church is holding a special Christmas concert on Saturday 9th December 7.30pm featuring not just one\, but two\, of the area’s top choirs. \nThe programme includes a range of wonderful and uplifting music including Handel’s Messiah Part 1\, plus the “Hallelujah Chorus” and “Amen”.  Also on the menu are Edward Naylor’s exciting “Vox Dicentis”\, the peaceful “O Magnum Mysterium” by American composer Morten Lauridsen\, and two unusual pieces by the Norwegian Ola Gjeilo “The holly & the ivy” & “Dark night of the soul”. \nSolway Singers \nTogether with music by two local composers Jonathan Millican “Ave Maria” & Tamsin Jones “Rite Majorem Iacobus Canamus”\, plus Bob Chilcott and Ken Johnston\, and a sing-along of Christmas carols for the audience\, we challenge anyone to head off home not feeling uplifted & Christmassy\, and a little in wonder too. \nTickets (£10\, students £2\, under 10s free) available from St James parish office (01228-810616 parish.office@stjamescarlisle.org.uk)\, from choir members\, or on the door. \nSt. James is the Church of England parish church for Denton Holme\, Longsowerby and Cummersdale\, and is located on the corner of St James Road and Norfolk Road\, Carlisle (CA2 5PD).  \n  \n
