A popular International Market is set to return to Carlisle city centre between Thursday 23 and Monday 27 August as part of this year’s Carlisle Fringe programme.

Carlisle International Market, organised by Market Place Europe, will include a specially designed Food and Drink court at its heart. Offering some of the best international street foods and drinks and some great entertainment.

It will also feature a fantastic array of gifts, crafts and artisan products from around the world.

The award winning International Market is supported by Carlisle City Council. Shoppers will be spoilt for choice with a huge mix of authentic continental treats in the city centre. Stalls will be open between:

  • Thursday 23 August9am – 8pm
  • Friday 24 August9am – 9pm
  • Saturday 25 August9am – 9pm
  • Sunday 26 August10am – 6pm
  • Bank Holiday Monday10am – 6pm

At Carlisle International Market, visitors can enjoy the very best international flavours and crafts from over thirty tradersSavour some delicious Greek souvlaki and gyros made to traditional recipes, enjoy a tasty bratwurst or currywurst sausage cooked on the huge traditional German schwenkgrill, indulge in a traditional French crepe with one of the many tasty toppings on offer.  If you fancy a light bite, delectable Spanish tapas and Indian street food will be on offer. And for those wanting to take the flavours of the world home with them there will be plenty of fresh food such as olives, cheeses, preserves, biscuits and sweets. They are also bringing back the ever-popular Continental Street Bar serving some great continental beers and wine.

There will also be plenty of crafts and gifts to discover including beautifully created Swarovski and silver jewellery, aromatherapy oils and products, unique fashion and gift ideas.

Green fingered shoppers will not be disappointed either as the market will include popular Dutch plant seller with his wonderful array of shrubs, plants, trees and bulbs.

The International Market forms part of the Carlisle Fringe programme. As part of this, an ancient Proclamation will be recited at the Market Cross on Saturday, 25 August at 10am. The Proclamation is a declaration of Carlisle City Council’s rights to hold an annual Fair in August, originally granted to the citizens of Carlisle in 1352 by Edward III.

A procession including The Mayor of Carlisle, Cllr Jessica Riddle, Sword and Mace Bearers and other Civic Dignitaries will make its way from St Cuthbert’s Church to the Market Cross in the city centre.
